How Do I Get Rid Of An Old Mattress

About 20 million mattresses are thrown away every year just in the United States. Why should we care?  Well, for every 10,000 people that either donate or recycle their mattresses, it would save the amount of landfill space that is equal to an entire football field!

So how do I get rid of it?

It could be illegal in some states to just throw them away, so you better check if that is the answer to your mattress problem.

Donate it

Places that may take your mattress include:

  • A half way house
  • Crisis Center
  • Someone on Craigslist or any other website like that may take it off your hands

Just make sure you clean it first. Do an Internet search on how to do this. It is so incredibly simple you will be amazed.

Last, but not least,

Earth 911 is a very cool website. You enter the what it is you want to recycle, then enter your zip code and it will give you a list of places that will take your item and recycle it. It's that easy!
